About

Timothy Blackwood is a 25-time award-winning filmmaker of both documentary and narrative films. He was born in Prince Edward Island, Canada, and educated at The University of King's College and The European Film College in Ebeltoft, Denmark.

Timothy’s films inspire audiences through powerful human stories in which heroes from the margins of society triumph over obstacles through faith and perseverance. Timothy directed the 9-time award-winning documentary The Conqueror, which focuses on Jerome Conquest, a Philadelphia native who lost his best friend to street violence at the age of 17. This tragic loss inspired Conquest to stop fighting in the streets and enter the boxing ring. Now a maintenance worker by day and a professional boxer by night, Conquest uplifts his community, Strawberry Mansion (North Philadelphia), showing that dreams can be achieved through strong moral character and doing what is right.

In 2023, Timothy premiered his narrative short Infraction, which is based on the real-life story of Terrance Lewis, who spent 21 years in prison for a murder he didn’t commit. Infraction sheds light on our need to break the shackles of injustice through charity and helping one's fellow man. The film went on to win 23 awards and screen at over 30 festivals worldwide.

Timothy has several films in development including his first feature screenplay A Time to Fish, which was shortlisted for the Sundance Screenwriters Lab. He is a recipient of multiple grants from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Moving Picture Institute (including participating in multiple screenwriting workshops, the Documentary Storytelling Workshop, Business of Film program, and the Short Film Lab). His films shine a spotlight on stories of hope and redemption.
